Preliminaries

  • Site assessment
  • Topography, slope etc
  • Establish true  or "solar" North
  • Orientation, good orientation will reduce the load requirement on auxiliary heating and cooling reducing your homes energy bills
  • Climate conditions (Zoning) the core 2 climate conditions we build within are COOL TEMPERATE (includes cold alpine) and TEMPERATE
  • Shadowing
  • Overlooking
Design
  • Client requirements (space , bedrooms , general design brief etc)
  • Material selection
  • Style
  • Ongoing maintenance required
  • Achitectural design influence
Insulation
  • Glazing and window framing options
  • Wall types
  • Insulation options
  • Thermal mass options and placement
  • Ventilation / cross flow ventilation
  • Shading devices both adjustable and fixed options
  • Roof cavity ventilation
Draft reduction
  • Weather proofing and seals to doors , gaps, cracks etc
  • Draft stoppers fitted to exhaust fans etc

Heating and Cooling
  • careful consideration of the vast aray of options available to suit the site and client requirements
  • Our intention is to promote passive heating and cooling measures and minimise the reliance on auxiliary heating and cooling systems where possible
  • we have many years of experience with some of the following systems
  • Hydronic inslab and/or wall radiators
  • geothermal heating and cooling
  • high velocity heating and cooling from varied boost sytems
  • high efficiency gas central heating
  • high efficiency refrigerated cooling
Lighting
  • LED lighting
  • Fluorescent lighting
  • low wattage solutions
  • Consider using solar lighting for outdoor spaces
  • careful placement
  • Use well designed windows
Electrical appliances
  • Electrical appliances can acount for approximately 25% of household energy consumption
  • When purchasing white goods (fridges, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers and clothes dryers) look for the star ratings
  • The higher the star rating the lower the long term cost of running the item
  • Turn electrical appliances that dont need to be running off when not in use
  • Standby energy use can account for upto 10% of household energy use
Solar power
  • Our team of electricians have assisted with many solar power installations ranging from small 1kW to larger 10kW roof mounted systems
  • Full off grid power generation systems have been installed by our electricians and are successfully working
  • Our electricians can assist with the range of alternative options available
Hotwater Systems
  • Choose the most efficient hotwater system and the best energy source to meet your families needs
  • Solar, gas and electric heatpumps produce far fewer greenhouse emissions than conventional electric storage systems
  • Solar boosted hot water systems are apart of nearly every roof these days however there are many different systems available that may suit different site conditions and family demands
  • Solar and Heat pump hot water systems will contribute to sizable reduced energy household bills
  • assess the star rating of the hotwater system the higher the star rating the more energy efficient and the lower its comparative enrgy consumption

Landscape Consideration
  • deciduous trees for shading
  • Drought proofing your landscape

Room Zoning
  • Zoning of living spaces allows more effective heating reducing household bills
Water Use
  • Reducing water demand
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • On-site waste water reuse
  • Storm water management
  • Outdoor water use
Colours
  • Selecting the exterior colours also have an impact on the thermal performance of your home
